Daves Cat Food Reviews: Pros & Cons, Plus What Actual Cats Think!

Okay, so I decided to get serious about what I’m feeding my cat, Mittens. She’s been getting a little, uh, chunky, and I figured it was time to check out some different food options. The name “Dave’s Cat Food” just sounded wholesome and good, so I figured, why not give it a shot? That’s where I started my experiment.

Digging In

First thing, I needed to figure out what flavors of Dave’s even exist. I checked the official website, then started looking at online pet stores. I wanted to get a good sense of the variety, because Mittens can be a picky eater sometimes.

I found a few options, I wrote them down on a note:

  • Chicken Formula
  • Turkey & Giblets
  • Salmon Dinner
  • A “95% Premium Meat” line (various flavors)

The Taste Test (well, for Mittens)

I picked up a few cans of the Chicken and the Turkey & Giblets, figuring those were safe bets. Opening the Chicken can, I noticed, the food looks… well, like regular wet cat food. It’s kinda pasty, not super smelly (which is good for me!). Mittens seemed interested, sniffing at it cautiously.

The first day, I mixed a little bit of the Dave’s with her old food, just to ease her into it. She ate it all up, no problem! Good sign, right?

The second day, I went with about a 50/50 mix. Still no complaints from the furry food critic.

By day three, it was all Dave’s. And… success! Mittens cleaned her bowl. I did the same process with the Turkey & Giblets flavor, and she gobbled that up too.

The Results (So Far)

It’s only been about a week, so it’s too early to say if Dave’s is magically making Mittens slim and trim. But I’ve noticed a few things:

  • She seems to have good energy. She’s been playing more, chasing her little toy mouse like a kitten again.
  • Her poop is, uh, normal. (Hey, it’s an important part of cat ownership, right?) No weirdness there.
  • No throwing up, no hairballs, just happy eating.

Overall, I’m feeling pretty good about this switch. Dave’s seems to be a hit with Mittens, and it makes me feel better knowing I’m giving her something that seems to be high-quality. I’ll probably try the Salmon flavor next, just to see if she likes it. Maybe I’ll even splurge on that “95% Premium Meat” stuff eventually. If she’s happy, I do everything for her!
