Flying Bugs in Cat Litter Box? Common Causes & Easy Solutions

Okay, so, the other day I noticed some tiny bugs flying around my cat’s litter box. Not cool, right? Nobody wants bugs, especially not in a place that’s supposed to be, you know, clean-ish. So I decided I had to do something about it.

Getting Rid of Those Flying Bugs

First thing I did was a bit of good old-fashioned internet research. Turns out, these little buggers are often attracted to the moisture and, well, the waste in the litter box. Makes sense, I guess.

My action plan went like this:

  • Step 1: Total litter box clean-out. I dumped all the old litter, scrubbed the box with hot, soapy water, and made sure it was completely dry before adding fresh litter.
  • Step 2: I switched to a clumping litter. I’d been using the non-clumping kind, but the clumping stuff is supposed to be better at trapping moisture, which, as I learned, is what attracts the bugs.
  • Step 3: I started scooping the box more often. Like, twice a day instead of once. It’s a bit more work, but it seems to be helping keep things drier and less, uh, attractive to the bugs.
  • Step 4:Put some traps near the box.

It’s been about a week now, and I have to say, it’s made a big difference. I’m barely seeing any of those flying bugs anymore. I think the combination of the super clean box, the new litter, and the more frequent scooping is really doing the trick. Also those traps indeed helped.

So, if you’re dealing with flying bugs in your cat’s litter box, don’t freak out! Just try these steps. It might take a little bit of effort, but it’s definitely worth it to get rid of those nasty little pests.
