Panacur for Cats: Figuring Out the Right Dosage?

Okay, here’s my blog post about figuring out the right Panacur dosage for my cat:

Panacur for Cats: Figuring Out the Right Dosage?

So, my cat, Mittens, had some tummy troubles. You know, the kind where you’re cleaning up… extra messes. After a quick vet visit (and a not-so-quick bill), we found out she had worms. The vet recommended Panacur, which I’d heard of before, but never actually used.

First thing I did? Hit up the internet, of course! I was immediately overwhelmed. There were so many different dosages, and weights, and, ugh, it was confusing. Some sites talked about milligrams per kilogram, others were in pounds… My head was spinning.

I finally found the instructions on the Panacur packet itself. It’s pretty straightforward, but you gotta pay attention. It’s all based on your cat’s weight.

Dosage Calulation

They had a little chart, but it wasn’t super clear for in-between weights. Mittens is about 9 pounds, so I had to do a little math (which I’m terrible at, by the way).

  • I ended up giving her the dose recommended amount for her weight.
  • I crushed it up into some wet food because there’s no way she’d take it otherwise. Sneaky, I know!
  • I did that for three days in a row, as per the instructions.

It took a few days, but I definitely noticed a difference. No more… uh… surprises in the litter box. Yay!

One thing I learned: Don’t mess around with dosages. I was tempted to just eyeball it, but I’m glad I didn’t. It’s always better to be safe and follow the instructions, or even better, ask your vet if you’re unsure.

It all worked out in the end, Mittens is back to her usual, sassy self. But seriously, figuring out medication dosages can be a pain. Always double-check, and when in doubt, call the vet!
