Alright, let’s talk about something I dealt with recently. My cat, Buttons, started getting this weird dry patch near his tail. He wouldn’t leave it alone, constantly licking and scratching. At first, I figured it was nothing, maybe just winter dryness, you know?
I watched him for a couple of days, but it wasn’t getting better. If anything, it looked redder from all the attention he was giving it. I didn’t want it to get infected or anything serious, so I decided I needed to try something. Didn’t want to rush to the vet right away, thought maybe a simple cream could help first.
Finding and Trying a Cream
So, I popped over to the local pet supply store. Honestly, there were quite a few options on the shelf. Ointments, balms, sprays… kinda confusing. I wasn’t looking for anything medicated right off the bat. I ended up picking a cream that had some natural-sounding stuff in it, things like calendula and aloe. Seemed gentle enough, figured it couldn’t hurt.
Getting it on Buttons was the next step. Anyone with a cat knows this can be… interesting. I waited until he was super relaxed, almost asleep, draped over the back of the sofa. I put a tiny dab on my finger and gently rubbed it onto the spot. He flicked his ear but mostly tolerated it, thankfully. The instructions said twice a day, so I tried to stick to that, usually morning and then again in the evening when he was calm.
Did it Work?
Here’s what happened:
- Day 1-2: Not much change, honestly. He still licked the area a bit after I applied the cream, but maybe slightly less scratching overall.
- Day 3-4: Okay, started seeing a difference. The redness was definitely less angry-looking. The patch seemed less flaky.
- Day 5-7: Big improvement. The skin looked much healthier, almost back to normal. And the best part? Buttons had pretty much stopped scratching and licking it obsessively.
So, yeah, for this particular little dry patch, the simple cream actually worked out pretty well for us. I just kept applying a tiny bit once a day for a few more days after it looked healed, just to be sure. It wasn’t a miracle cure overnight, took a bit of patience and consistent application, especially the sneaky part of applying it when he was sleepy. But it saved a vet visit this time, which is always nice. Just wanted to share how it went for me and Buttons.
