Best Litter Box for Bedroom? Minimize Smell & Mess!

Okay, so I’ve got a cat, and like many of you, I live in a relatively small space. My bedroom is my sanctuary, but it was also becoming my cat’s, uh, bathroom. The smell was starting to get to me, not to mention the little litter trails. I needed a solution, and I needed it fast.

First, I considered the location. I didn’t want the litter box to be the first thing I saw when I woke up, nor did I want it to be hidden away somewhere inaccessible for my kitty. I measured a few spots – under my desk (too cramped!), beside the dresser (too obvious!), and finally, settled on a corner near my window. It’s discreet but still easy for my cat to get to.

Choosing the Right Litter Box

  • Covered or uncovered? I initially went with an uncovered box because it was cheaper. Big mistake! Litter was getting kicked out everywhere.
  • Size matters! My cat is a bit of a chonk, so I needed a box that was large enough for him to turn around in comfortably.
  • Material: I opted for a sturdy plastic one, easy to clean, and nothing fancy.

I upgraded to a covered litter box with a high back. It was a game-changer! Much less mess, and the smell was significantly reduced. I also added a litter mat in front of the box to catch any stray granules. It’s one of those textured ones that really helps trap the litter.

The Cleaning Routine

This is the crucial part, folks. I scoop the box every single day. No excuses. It takes like two minutes, and it makes a world of difference. I use a clumping litter, which makes it super easy to remove the waste.

Once a week, I completely empty the box, wash it with soap and water, and refill it with fresh litter. I also sprinkle some baking soda at the bottom of the box before adding the litter to help absorb odors.

Honestly, it’s not rocket science. It’s just about finding a system that works for you and your cat and sticking to it. Now, my bedroom is back to being my sanctuary, and my cat has a clean and discreet place to do his business. We’re both much happier!
