Okay, so I’ve been meaning to switch up my cat’s food for a while. Mittens, my fluffy Persian, has been getting a bit…chunky, and her fur isn’t as shiny as it used to be. I’ve heard good things about Buffalo Blue, so I figured I’d give it a shot and, you know, document the whole process.

The Hunt for the Perfect Food
First things first, I needed to actually find the food. My local pet store is pretty small, so I was not sure to find it there. I remember I checked some bigger stores before.
I grabbed a bag of the “Healthy Weight” formula, because, well, Mittens could stand to lose a pound or two. I also noticed they had different formulas for kittens, seniors, and even sensitive stomachs. I made a mental note of that for future reference, in case my sister’s ancient cat needs a change.
The Introduction – Operation Sneaky Switch
You can’t just dump a new food in your cat’s bowl and expect them to be happy. Cats are creatures of habit, and sudden changes can upset their little tummies (and their attitudes!).
So, I started by mixing a tiny bit of the Buffalo Blue with Mittens’ old food. Like, a tablespoon of the new stuff with a cup of the old. I watched her like a hawk, making sure she didn’t turn her nose up at it.
- Day 1-3: Barely any Buffalo Blue in the mix. Mittens ate everything, no problem.
- Day 4-6: Increased the Buffalo Blue ratio to about 1/4 of the total food. Still good!
- Day 7-9: Half and half. Mittens seemed a little more interested in her bowl, sniffing it for longer. Maybe she likes the new stuff?
- Day 10 onwards: All Buffalo Blue, baby!
The Results – Is Mittens a Fan?
It’s been about three weeks now since Mittens has been exclusively on Buffalo Blue. Here’s what I’ve noticed:
Energy Levels: She’s definitely more playful! She used to spend most of her day napping on the windowsill, but now she’s actually batting at her toys and chasing after that little red laser dot again. It’s pretty adorable.
Fur: Her fur is noticeably softer and shinier. It’s not like she suddenly transformed into a show cat, but there’s definitely an improvement. It feels less dry and brittle.
Poop: Yep, I’m going there. Her litter box situation is…better. Less smelly, and her stools are more, um, solid. (Sorry, TMI, but it’s important for cat owners!)

Weight: It’s still early days, but I think she might have lost a little bit of weight. She looks slightly less like a furry football and more like a sleek, elegant feline. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating, but she does seem a bit trimmer around the middle.
The Verdict
So far, so good! I’m pretty happy with the switch to Buffalo Blue. Mittens seems to enjoy it, and I’m seeing some positive changes in her health and appearance. Of course, every cat is different, so what works for Mittens might not work for your furry friend. But if you’re looking for a new cat food, I’d say Buffalo Blue is definitely worth considering. I’m planning to keep her on it for the long haul, and I’ll probably update this in a few months to see if the positive changes continue.
