Daves Cat Food: Is It Worth Buying? (Simple Guide for Cat Owners)

Okay, so today I wanted to try out making some homemade cat food. I’ve been seeing all this stuff online about Dave’s cat food, and it got me thinking, maybe I could whip up something healthier (and cheaper!) for my own little furball, Mittens.

Daves Cat Food: Is It Worth Buying? (Simple Guide for Cat Owners)

Getting Started

First, I did some digging around to see what goes into cat food. Turns out, cats are carnivores, big time. They need a lot of protein. So, I figured chicken would be a good starting point. I grabbed a couple of chicken breasts from the fridge – the ones I was probably gonna make a boring dinner with anyway.

Cooking The Chicken

Next, I boiled the chicken. No fancy seasonings or anything, just plain old water. I wanted to keep it simple and as close to what a cat might eat in the wild as possible, you know, minus the hunting part.

Adding Some Extras

While the chicken was cooking, I remembered that cats also need some other nutrients. I found a can of pumpkin in the pantry – apparently, that’s good for their digestion. I also threw in a handful of cooked rice, just to add some bulk to the meal.

Mixing It All Up

Once the chicken was cooked through, I took it out and let it cool down a bit. Then, I shredded the chicken into small pieces. I mixed it with the pumpkin and rice in a bowl. It actually looked pretty decent, kind of like a weird chicken salad.

The Taste Test

Now for the moment of truth – would Mittens actually eat this concoction? I put a small scoop in her bowl and waited. She sniffed it cautiously at first, then took a tiny bite. And then another, and another! Before I knew it, she had gobbled up the whole thing. Success!

My Thoughts

  • It felt good to make something for Mittens from scratch.
  • It definitely seems cheaper than buying those fancy, expensive cat food brands.
  • I’m not sure if I’ll do this every day, but it’s nice to have the option.
  • I need to research more about cat nutrition to make sure I’m giving her everything she needs.

So, that’s my little adventure in homemade cat food making. It was easier than I thought, and Mittens seems to love it. Maybe I’ll try a fish version next time!
