My Experience Figuring Out Drontal for My Cat
Alright, so the other day it was time to sort out worming for my cat, Leo. He wasn’t acting weird or anything, just routine stuff, you know? I had the Drontal tablets on hand, the ones specifically for cats.

First thing I realized, you can’t just guess the dose. The box has weight ranges on it. So, the first challenge began: weighing Leo. Anyone who has tried weighing a cat knows it’s not always straightforward. I ended up doing the classic trick: weigh myself, then weigh myself holding Leo, and do the math. Not super precise, maybe, but good enough. He came in around 9 pounds.
Okay, weight figured out. Next, I looked closely at the Drontal box and the little paper inside. It tells you how many tablets per pound or kilogram. It’s important to match this up right. My box had tablets scored down the middle, which was handy. Based on Leo’s 9 pounds, I needed one whole tablet.
- Got Leo’s weight (around 9 lbs).
- Checked the Drontal instructions for cats.
- Figured out the dose was one tablet for his weight range.
Giving the Tablet
Now, the fun part. Giving a cat a pill. Deep breath. I tried wrapping it in a bit of his favorite treat first. Nope, he ate around it. Smart little guy.
Plan B. I had to gently hold him, tilt his head back just a bit, open his mouth, and pop the tablet way at the back of his tongue. Then closed his mouth and stroked his throat gently to encourage swallowing. It sounds simple, but it took a couple of tries. He wasn’t thrilled, obviously, but we got it done. Getting it right down the hatch quickly is key, I think.
Afterwards, I just kept an eye on him for a bit. Made sure he didn’t spit it out somewhere sneaky. Gave him lots of praise and a proper treat (without a pill hidden in it this time). He seemed fine, back to his usual self pretty quickly. So yeah, that was my process. Always gotta check that weight and read the instructions carefully before you start.
