Okay, here’s my blog post about transitioning my cat to a new litter box, written in a casual, personal style, using basic HTML tags:

So, my cat, Whiskers, is a creature of habit. Like, seriously. He’d been using the same old, beat-up litter box for years, and I knew it was time for an upgrade. But I was dreading the change, figuring it’d be a total cat-tastrophe (pun intended!). Here’s how I actually managed to get him to switch without too much drama.
Step 1: Picking the Right Box
First, I didn’t just grab any random box. I thought about what Whiskers seemed to like (and dislike) about his old one. He’s a bigger boy, so I knew he needed something roomy. I also noticed he hated covered boxes – felt too claustrophobic, I guess. So, I went with a large, open-top litter box. It was a simple, sturdy plastic one, nothing fancy.
Step 2: The Slow Introduction
This is where I think I really succeeded. I didn’t just throw out the old box and expect him to be okay. Instead, I put the new box right next to the old one. Yep, two litter boxes side-by-side. It looked a little ridiculous in my bathroom, but it was temporary.
Step 3: Making the New Box Appealing
I put some of his used litter from the old box into the new one. I know, it sounds gross, but it’s all about scent for cats. It helped him recognize it as a “bathroom” place. I also scooped the old box a little less frequently, to keep that familiar smell extra strong.
- Put Used litter in the new box.
Step 4: Patience, Patience, Patience!
For the first few days, Whiskers completely ignored the new box. He stuck with his trusty old one. I didn’t force anything. I just kept both boxes clean (well, relatively, as mentioned above!), and waited. Then one of my friend give me a catnip, I put a little catnip near the new box.
Step 5: The First Use!
It take almost a week. I go home and saw a little surprise in new box. Whiskers had finally used the new box! I made a huge fuss, gave him lots of praise, and a few extra treats. Positive reinforcement, people! Then, i moved new box to the position I wanted. I tried put the old one near it.
Step 6: Gradual Removal of the Old Box
After he’d used the new box consistently for a few days, I started scooping the old box even less. I wanted it to become less appealing. Eventually I put less litter in old one. After another week, the old box was gone. The old one was totally, completely gone.
Step 7: Success!
It took a couple of weeks in total, but we did it! Whiskers is now exclusively using the new litter box, and seems perfectly happy with it. The key, I think, was going slow and letting him adjust at his own pace. And recognizing that scent is super important to cats! No more stinky, cracked old litter box – we’ve officially entered a new era of feline bathroom bliss.
