Okay, so, this whole thing started when I noticed a funky smell in my laundry basket. At first, I thought maybe I’d forgotten a sweaty gym shirt or something. But the smell got stronger, and then… bam! I found it. My favorite hoodie, soaked in cat pee. Ugh.

I have two cats, Max and Luna. Max is a chill dude, never had any problems with him. Luna, on the other hand… she’s a bit of a princess. I was pretty sure it was her.
Figuring Out the “Why”
My first step was obviously to clean everything. That involved a lot of washing, special enzymatic cleaners, and praying to the laundry gods. But the bigger question was why? Why would Luna, who’s usually pretty good about using her litter box, suddenly decide my clothes were a better option?
First thing I did was check the litter box,it’s clean enough as usual, then I made sure there were enough boxes (rule of thumb: one per cat, plus an extra). Check, check. All good there.
Next, I thought about any recent changes. Had I switched litter brands? Nope. New furniture? Nope. Anything that might stress Luna out? Hmm… actually, I had been working longer hours lately. Maybe she was feeling neglected?
- Stress/Anxiety:I realized those long workdays were that my cat pee on my clothes.
Putting a Stop to It
Knowing why is one thing, but stopping it is another. So, here’s what I did:
- More Playtime: I made a conscious effort to spend more quality time with Luna. Extra cuddles, laser pointer sessions, the whole nine yards.
- Feliway Diffuser: I’d heard good things about these pheromone diffusers, so I plugged one in near the laundry area. Figured it couldn’t hurt.
- Laundry Basket Lockdown: I got a hamper with a lid. No more easy access for sneaky peeing.
And guess what? It worked! It’s been a few weeks now, and no more pee-soaked clothes. I’m still keeping a close eye on things, but so far, so good. I think the extra attention and the Feliway really helped calm Luna down.
This whole experience taught me that cat pee problems are usually a sign of something else going on. It’s not just about being “bad” – it’s about figuring out what’s bugging your furry friend and trying to fix it.
