My Journey of Moving the Cat Litter Box

So, I decided it was time to move the cat’s litter box. It was in the spare bathroom, but honestly, we needed that space for, you know, actual bathroom stuff. Plus, the litter dust was getting everywhere, even with those fancy mats. Time for a change!

First, I thought about where to put it. The laundry room seemed like a good spot. Out of the way, right? But then I realized the noise of the washer and dryer might scare the poor kitty. He needs his peace and quiet while doing his business, you get me?

Next, I considered the basement. We have a little unfinished area down there that’s basically just storage. I even found these cool storage bins online, and someone had turned one into a litter box! Genius, I thought. But, my storage bins’ plastic didn’t feel smooth enough, and the bottoms weren’t flat either, which worried me a bit. I didn’t want the litter to get stuck or anything.

I spent a good hour online, looking at different setups. Then I saw this pin from a lady, Robin McCalden. She had this whole system for hiding the litter box in plain sight, making it look like a piece of furniture. But my DIY skills are, shall we say, limited. And I also don’t have much time.

Finally, I decided on a simple solution. I moved the litter box to a corner of our living room, behind a large potted plant. It’s not ideal, but it’s working for now. I bought a really good litter mat to catch any stray litter, and I scoop the box religiously, like twice a day.

The cat? He didn’t even bat an eye. He found the new spot right away and used it without any issues. Cats, man. They’re adaptable little creatures.

  • Step 1: Contemplated ideal locations (laundry room – too noisy, basement – maybe).
  • Step 2: Explored DIY litter box solutions (storage bin idea – concerned about texture).
  • Step 3: Researched online for inspiration (found Robin McCalden’s hidden litter box idea – too complicated).
  • Step 4: Opted for a simple solution (moved the box behind a plant in the living room).
  • Step 5: Implemented practical measures (bought a good litter mat, increased scooping frequency).
  • Result: Cat adapted seamlessly to the new location.

So, that’s my litter box moving saga. Not exactly glamorous, but hey, it’s real life. And the most important thing is, everyone’s happy – me and the furry overlord.
