Okay, so, my cat, Mittens, she’s been acting kind of weird lately. You know, normally she’s all bouncy and full of energy, jumping on everything. But for the past few days, she’s been, like, slinking around, really low to the ground. It’s not her usual style, you know?
At first, I didn’t think much of it. I figured maybe she just tired herself out from chasing that red laser dot I like to tease her with. But then it kept going on. She was walking like she was trying to sneak up on something all the time, even when there was nothing there. It started to worry me a little.
So, I did what anyone would do – I started watching her like a hawk. I noticed she was also hiding more than usual. Under the bed, behind the couch, you name it. And she wasn’t eating as much. That’s when I really started to get concerned. Mittens loves her food, it’s usually a highlight for her.
I decided to try and coax her out with her favorite treats. You know, those little crunchy things she goes crazy for. Usually, she comes running the second she hears the bag rustle. This time, though, she just kind of peeked out from under the sofa, looking all sad and pathetic. I was starting to think that maybe I need to take her to a vet, because she seems like she is sick or something.
I carefully picked her up. She didn’t struggle, which was unusual. I held her close and started petting her, trying to figure out what was wrong. I felt her belly, checked her paws, looked in her ears… nothing seemed obviously out of place. But she did seem a bit tense, and she let out a little whimper when I touched her lower back.
Aha! I think I might have found something. It seemed like maybe she hurt her back somehow. Maybe she fell off something or twisted it while playing. I remembered she tried to jump from the table to the top of the fridge the other day and missed. That could be it!
I decided to give her some space and let her rest. I made her a cozy little bed in a quiet corner of the room and made sure she had fresh water nearby. I also limited her jumping places. I figured if she had a sore back, jumping around was probably not going to help. I kept a close eye on her for the rest of the day.
Slowly but surely, she started to improve. She came out of hiding more often and even ate a little bit of her dinner. By the next day, she was walking a bit more normally, although still a little low to the ground. The day after that, she was almost back to her old self, chasing that laser dot again like a maniac.
My Conclusion
- Keep an eye out: Pay close attention to changes in your cat’s behavior.
- Detective work: Try to figure out what might be causing the issue by observing their actions and checking for any physical discomfort.
- Rest and recovery: If you suspect an injury, give them a safe, comfortable space to rest and limit activities that might worsen the problem.
- Vet visit?: If you are very concerned that your cat is sick, you might want to get her/him checked out at a vet.
It looks like Mittens just had a minor injury that needed a little time to heal. I’m so glad she’s feeling better now. It was a good reminder that even the smallest changes in our furry friends can be a sign that something’s up. So, yeah, that’s the story of why my cat was walking all weird and low to the ground. Mystery solved, I guess!
