Okay, here’s my blog post about setting up a long, narrow cat litter box, written in the style you requested:

Alright, so my cat, Mr. Fluffernutter, he’s a big boy. A long boy. And his old litter box? Let’s just say it was a bit… cramped. He’d go in, do his business, and half the time end up with his butt hanging out, or he’d step in his own mess trying to turn around. Not ideal. So, I started on a mission: Operation Long Narrow Litter Box.

The Hunt Begins

First, I hit up the usual pet stores. Nada. Everything was either a standard square-ish shape, or one of those fancy covered ones that look like spaceships. Mr. Fluffernutter ain’t about that spaceship life. He needs length.

Then I thought, “Okay, DIY time.” I considered those long, shallow under-bed storage containers. You know, the plastic ones? They seemed perfect! The right shape, for sure.

The Build (It Was Easy)

So, I grabbed one of those under-bed storage bins. Clear plastic, so I could kinda see what was going on in there (don’t judge, a cat owner’s gotta monitor things!). I also got some of that heavy-duty plastic sheeting, like the kind you use for a drop cloth when you’re painting.

  • Step 1: I lined the inside of the bin with the plastic sheeting. This was just extra protection, in case of, uh, overflow. Mr. Fluffernutter can be enthusiastic.
  • Step 2: I secured the sheeting with some strong tape. Duct tape, of course. The universal fix-it-all.
  • Step 3: I poured in a good layer of his favorite clumping litter. We’re talking a solid few inches.

The Result

And that’s it! Seriously, it was that simple. Mr. Fluffernutter took to it immediately. He walked in, did his thing, turned around with room to spare, and walked out a happy cat. No more butt-hanging-out incidents. No more stepping in anything unpleasant.

Honestly, I don’t know why they don’t sell more litter boxes in this shape. It just makes sense for longer cats! If your feline friend is similarly… elongated… I highly recommend giving this a try. It’s a cheap, easy solution, and it’s made a world of difference for Mr. Fluffernutter (and my cleaning routine!).
