My Run-in with Earthborn Cat Food
Alright, let’s talk about cat food. Specifically, Earthborn. I decided I needed to switch things up for my cat, Whiskers. He wasn’t exactly complaining about his old chow, but, you know, sometimes you just get a feeling. Maybe I was reading too much online, maybe I just wanted to try something different. Anyway, the name Earthborn kept popping up here and there.

So, I started looking into it. Didn’t do a PhD level research project or anything, just poked around a bit. Went down to the local pet supply place. Stood there for a good while, just looking at the different bags. Lots of options, honestly. Primitive Feline, Feline Vantage, Wild Sea Catch… gave me a bit of a headache.
I picked up a bag, I think it was the Feline Vantage one first. Read the label on the back. Ingredients seemed alright, you know? Chicken meal, peas, potatoes, stuff like that. Less corn and weird fillers than some of the cheaper brands I’d used ages ago. Felt like a decent middle-ground option. Didn’t want to splurge on the super fancy stuff right away, case Whiskers decided he hated it. So, I grabbed a small bag to start.
The Big Switch
Getting the food home was the easy part. The real test was getting Mr. Fussy himself to actually eat it. You can’t just swap food overnight, that’s asking for trouble – usually messy trouble involving the litter box or the carpet. Learned that lesson the hard way back in the day.
So, I started slow. Like, real slow.
- Day 1-3: Mixed maybe a spoonful, like 10-15% of the Earthborn, into his old food. Just enough for him to notice something different. He sniffed it a lot. Ate around it a bit at first, then eventually just ate the mix. No complaints, no barfing. Good start.
- Day 4-7: Upped it to maybe 25-30% new stuff. Still watching him like a hawk. Eating habits seemed normal. Litter box visits were regular, no surprises.
- Week 2: Went for about a 50/50 mix. He was totally used to the smell and taste by now, just chowed down like usual.
- Week 3: Pushed it to 75% Earthborn. Still no issues. Coat looked maybe a bit nicer? Hard to say definitively, could’ve been the light.
- Week 4: Finally went 100% Earthborn. Transition complete. Took the better part of a month, but slow and steady wins the race, right? Avoided any digestive drama.
Overall thoughts? Well, Whiskers eats it without fuss. That’s honestly half the battle. His energy levels are pretty much the same – still naps 20 hours a day. His coat looks decent, maybe slightly softer, but again, could just be me wanting to see results. The litter box situation is stable and, let’s be honest, less stinky than with some previous foods, which is a major plus in my book.
It’s not the cheapest food on the shelf, but it’s not breaking the bank either. Feels like a solid choice. Seems to agree with Whiskers, ingredients look okay on the label. For now, I’m sticking with it. Finding a food the cat likes and that doesn’t cause problems… well, that’s a win in my experience. So yeah, Earthborn’s been alright for us so far.
