Why do cats lick your nose? 3 possible reasons explained.

Okay, so the other day I was chilling on the couch, scrolling through my phone, when my cat, Mittens, jumped up and started nuzzling my face. And then, BAM! She licked my nose. It was kinda scratchy, kinda ticklish, and it got me thinking… why do cats do that?

Why do cats lick your nose? 3 possible reasons explained.

So, I started my little investigation. First, I just observed Mittens for a while. I noticed she does it mostly when I’m relaxed, like when I’m reading or watching TV. Sometimes, she’ll purr really loudly while she’s doing it, too.

My Little Experiment

  • Observation Phase: I spent a few days just watching Mittens and her interactions with me. I paid attention to when she licked my nose, and what I was doing at the time.
  • The “Snuggle Test”: I tried different things. Sometimes I’d be super active, other times I’d be really still and quiet. I wanted to see if my activity level affected her nose-licking behavior.
  • The “Treat Test”:I also get the treats involved.

The treats does not work, she just eat it and lick my nose!

So after all this, I think it’s a mix of things. She seem to do it to me beacuse I am relexed and * does this most of the time.
